Tsunami.......I tried reading a bit more about ..

A tsunami (pronounced su-nah-me) is a wave train, or series of waves, generated in a body of water by an impulsive disturbance that vertically displaces the water column. Earthquakes, landslides, volcanic eruptions, explosions, and even the impact of cosmic bodies, such as meteorites, can generate tsunamis. Tsunamis can savagely attack coastlines, causing devastating property damage and loss of life.

How do tsunamis differ from other water waves?

Tsunamis are unlike wind-generated waves, which many of us may have observed on a local lake or at a coastal beach, in that they are characterised as shallow-water waves, with long periods and wave lengths. The wind-generated swell one sees at a California beach, for example, spawned by a storm out in the Pacific and rhythmically rolling in, one wave after another, might have a period of about 10 seconds and a wave length of 150 m. A tsunami, on the other hand, can have a wavelength in excess of 100 km and period on the order of one hour.

       10 सेकंदात आपल्याला जीवन देणारे पाणी होते-नव्हते ते सारे गीलान्गृत  करू  शकते  ; याची अनाकलनीय  प्रात्याक्षिके म्हणजे जपान मधील निसर्गाचे हे रौद्ररूप ... !! 

     हिरोशिमा च्या बॉम्ब नंतर झालेली परिस्थिती आणि आत्ताची भीषणता म्हणजे ज्पानिच्न्ह्या अचाट धैर्याच आणि खंबीर पणाचं उदाहरण !  केवळ काही क्षणात नदीत शेवाळ हेलकावे खात असावे, असा दृश्य ; ज्यामध्ये पात्यान्म्ध्ली घर भासवीत अशी घर आणि त्यात असणारी माणसे हेलकावत होती !

     केवळ दहा सेकंदात इतक्या भल्या मोठ्या राष्ट्रातील ती विपुलता  ९ रिश्टर च्या धक्याने मुळापासून हलवून ठेवली ! राष्ट्राच्या प्रगतीचे आणि विज्ञानाचे द्योतक ठरणारे atomic reactors आजच्या पिठीचे आणि कदाचित पुढच्याही काही पिढींचे भवितव्य प्र्श्नाचीन्हांकित करणारे ठरले ! जागतिक मैत्रीचे हात पुढे सरसावून माणुसकीची पुन्हा एकदा पहाट झाली.

     विनाश्कली प्रल्यान्शिवाय आपण कधीच या गोष्टी शिकणारच नाही का ? असे राहिले तर कित्येकांनी वर्तवलेले डिसेम्बर २०१२ प्रत्यक्षात उतरूही शकेल? याची एक झलक होती का ही ?
     सुन्न करणारे वास्तव आणि जपानीच्या खाम्बिर्तेचे कौतुक ; याशिवाय पुढे शब्दच नाहीत ....... !!
